The hidden world

Alongside the human world

Obscura

Obscura is not a separate realm, but a hidden structure that exists alongside the human world. It is governed by supernatural laws, ancient agreements, and systems designed to preserve secrecy above all else.

Most humans live their lives unaware of Obscura—not because it is distant, but because it is deliberately obscured. Those who belong to it understand that visibility is dangerous, and that power survives through restraint as often as force.

Obscura is not uniform. It presses closer in some places than others.

City · pressure point

Blackpoint

Blackpoint at night

Blackpoint is one such city. It is not ruled by a single authority, but managed through fragile balances between factions, territories, and unspoken rules. Power gathers here because it can. Secrets linger because they must.

Cities

Certain cities act as pressure points—locations where supernatural presence is dense enough to strain concealment.

Blackpoint is one such city.

It is not ruled by a single authority, but managed through fragile balances between factions, territories, and unspoken rules. Power gathers here because it can. Secrets linger because they must.

Other cities exist where Obscura is louder, sharper, or less concerned with concealment. Some refine the illusion. Others barely bother with it at all.

Heathen’s Corner

Sanctioned Locations

Some places are designed to absorb overlap—spaces where multiple factions can coexist under watchful restraint.

These locations are not neutral.

They are sanctioned.

Heathen’s Corner is one such place. Violence is not forbidden here—but it is noticed. Actions carry weight, and consequences are rarely immediate, but never forgotten.

These locations exist to prevent pressure from rupturing elsewhere.

Sovereign territories

Kingdoms & Domains

Beyond cities, some territories operate under true sovereignty.

These domains are often defined by bloodline, species, or ancient oath rather than geography. Their borders are enforced, not negotiated. Concealment is maintained through isolation, dominance, or eradication of trespassers.

Not all power hides.

Some rules openly—within its own bounds.

Some truths reveal themselves only through story.

Laws of the glass

How the veil holds

The Shadowglass

The Shadowglass is the primary mechanism preserving Obscura’s secrecy. It alters perception rather than erasing reality, allowing humans to experience a version of events that feels plausible instead of true.

It is adaptive, ancient, and imperfect.

Under strain, it bends. Under pressure, it leaks.

Perception & Influence

Magic in this world affects experience more often than matter. Emotion, intention, and proximity amplify its effects. Crowds, music, and ritualized environments thin the barrier between what is hidden and what is felt.

Humans may not see the truth—but they can sense its weight.

Limits

Magic is not infinite.

Every use leaves residue.

Every distortion carries cost.

Every excess draws attention.

Power is measured not by what can be done—but by how long it can remain unseen.

Who walks Obscura

Those who live in its shadows

Humans

Humans exist under the influence of the Shadowglass, their perception subtly altered to preserve Obscura’s secrecy. Most never realize this. Some sense inconsistencies without understanding their source.

Humans are not inherently weak—but knowledge carries consequences. Full awareness is rare, unstable, and often fatal.

Supernaturals

Supernaturals exist openly within Obscura, but rarely without adaptation. Glamour is not disguise—it is translation. It allows supernatural presence to register as plausible within human perception.

Despite shared concealment, supernatural beings are not unified. Species, bloodlines, and allegiances vary widely, and coexistence is often a matter of tolerance rather than trust.

Bloodlines & Sovereigns

Some individuals inherit authority rather than claim it.

Princes, rulers, and ancient houses maintain power through recognition, lineage, and enforced tradition. Their influence may extend across cities, domains, or species—but it is never absolute.

Obedience is rarely requested.

It is expected.

Outliers

Not everyone fits cleanly within Obscura’s structures.

Some move between systems.

Some resist categorization.

Some draw attention simply by existing.

Outliers are often watched closely—not because they are powerful, but because they are unpredictable.
